Mickey Mouse!

IMG_7238

We are big Disney fans over here!  When my Sizzix Big Shot Plus Starter Fabric Kit arrived, it came with a circle die.  My husband immediately commented and said, “It’s Mickey Mouse!”  I knew then that I had to make this project!

Do you want to make one too?  Follow along and I will show you how!

You will need a Sizzix machine to make this.  My favorite is the Sizzix Big Shot Plus.  You can find it here.

I found these cute prints at Joanns.  The Steamboat Mickey is a flannel and the Minnie print is a cotton.  I bought 2/3 yards of each of the prints and 1/3 yard of the solids.

Don’t forget the Heat n Bond for this project!  You can find it here.

IMG_7222The first step is to iron the Heat n Bond to the wrong side of the solid fabric.  This will adhere to the flannel as well as the cotton.

Then make your Sizzix sandwich: cutting pad, circle die, fabric with Heat n Bond adhered and cutting pad.  If you didn’t get the circle die that came with the Big Shot Plus, you can use these circles found here and here.  You will have circles that look like this!  Remember to cut two of the ear circles!

Cut your print fabric 19 inches square.  This will make an 18″ pillow.  If you want a bigger or smaller pillow adjust accordingly.  Place your circles where you would like them on the pillow front.  I tucked the smaller circles behind the large circle to get the Mickey silhouette.  Then iron them into place.

Tip:  Place a towel over the Mickey, then place the iron on top.  Don’t move the iron back and forth as the pieces may shift.  The towel also helps to not scorch the fabric.  (ask me how I know that!)

Next you will stitch all around the Mickey shape.  I used a zig-zag stitch to help prevent it from fraying when washed.  I use an embroidery stabilizer when sewing on the Mickey shape.  You can find it here.  The stabilizer helps to keep my stitches even and avoids puckering.

I attached the zipper on the bottom by following Allison Jensen’s (@woodberry_way) tutorial on her instagram account.

Mickey is done!

Now we just have to decide who gets the pillow!  There may be a little fighting involved.  Guess I better make some more!

Here’s a little sneak peek!  Stay tuned and I will show you how to construct the Minnie pillow!

Chirp Out!
