Today is our last day of summer vacation. I’m sad to see summer go. We have had so much fun! But I think we are ready for a schedule.
The last summer project I did was for the girls’ 18″ dolls. I used my Sizzix Big Shot Plus Machine and the 18″ Doll Tank Top die. Cutting the fabric is always the worst part of a project for me. So this die is AMAZING! All the pieces are cut out so quick!
Kerry Goulder (Kid Giddy), who designed this Sizzix die, has an awesome YouTube step by step tutorial for these tanks. I suggest watching them for the perfect little tank tops!
Tip 1: I used 1/4″ pre-packaged bias binding. You can find this at most Big Box craft stores. This saved a lot of time and added a fun contrast to the tank top. You can make your own bias binding if you want to. Kerry walks you through it on her YouTube tutorial. I also wanted something fast! So pre-made binding for the win!
Tip 2: Glue! Glue! Glue! I usually don’t sew with glue. But this was a game-changer! These small bias binding pieces stayed on while I was sewing them so much better than when I use pins. So if you are on the fence, try it! I use Sue Dayley’s slimline glue sticks. They are amazing.
I also chose to go with snaps instead of hook and loop tape. Isn’t that yellow snap the cutest? I am having sew much fun using snaps! You can see the baby beach romper that I used snaps on here.
So why are we seeing double? Well with so many girls in my house, I can’t just make one doll outfit. I have to make two! I have joked for years that I feel like I have twins because I have to do everything twice! We are seeing double with two 18″ doll pineapple tank tops. I also wanted to match the pineapple sandals I made for the Sizzix blog.
I used my pineapple quilt for the perfect backdrop! Don’t these tanks make the best match! I’m not ready for summer to end! But at least we have these cute summer tanks to enjoy all year!
