Jolly Bar Row Along- Week 5

Hi! I’m back with week 5 of the Jolly Bar Row Along with Fat Quarter Shop. This week’s block is called Due North. You will need a copy of the Jolly Bar Book Volume 2, your favorite Jolly Bar and the fabric requirements to complete this quilt. Are you quilting along?

Jolly Bar Row Along

If you missed my previous weeks you can check out week 1, week 2, week 3 and week 4!

Buy the Jolly Bar Volume 2 Book

I picked Bonnie and Camille’s Early Bird fabric line for my Jolly Bar. I love Bonnie and Camille for Moda. I really love the little tulips and birds in this line. And no line would be complete without their beautiful florals! They are sew cute!

Oliso Iron

Where would I be without my Oliso iron? It gets so hot! It helps keep my blocks nice and flat with all that heat! And it’s pink!

Fork Pins

Do you have points that need to line up? These Due North blocks need the perfect point. The best way to get that is with FORK PINS!!! My quilting life changed when I found these. I used to unpick and unpick my blocks until my points matched. Now I use these pins and I don’t have to unpick, like ever! It’s amazing! The fork pin holds either side of the seam while stitching. The fabric cannot slide while stitching. If you haven’t tried these, you should!

Favorite Tools

My favorite tools! I am always grabbing for my Olfa Rotary Cutter. It is the perfect size and aqua (my other favorite color!) And I only sew with Aurifil Thread! My machine loves it and so do I! It glides beautifully through the fabric. I won’t use anything else!

I am liking how these Due North blocks turned out. They have a modern edge to it that I love! And of course those florals are my favorite! And polka dots! This fabric is sew cute!

Thanks for following along today! If you would like to see more of what I’m up to check out my Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest!

Stars and Stripes Quilt Travels

Today I am sharing one of my favorite projects ever, my Stars and Stripes Quilt! Why is this my favorite project? Because it combines two of my favorite things: quilting and traveling with my family. We decided to take an EPIC road trip this summer. We traveled over 7,200 miles through 25 states. It was incredible! To top it off, we took my quilt with us and took pics of it everywhere!

Pieced with Aurifil Thread

Before I get into the epic journey of this quilt, let me tell you more about it. I recently got a new machine (yay!) and it only likes Aurifil thread (me too!) I am also an Aurifil Artisan! This month as Aurifil Artisans, we are sharing our favorite thread weight. My favorite thread weight is 50. Why? Because it is so versatile! I was able to piece, quilt and bind my Stars and Stripes quilt without changing thread (besides a bobbin or two…or twenty).

Binding time with Aurifil

Here’s a close up of the quilting and the binding before I sewed it on. This Aurifil is the best! It quilts through all three layers of backing, batting and the quilt top so beautifully. I quilted wavy lines with my walking foot. It reminded me of a flag flying in a summer breeze.

I was curious what other quilters thought about thread weight so I made up a little poll. 89% said they prefer 50 weight thread! It is a winner! Now the quilt specs: the pattern is called Stars and Stripes and is designed by Camille Roskelley. I used my Bonnie and Camille fabric stash for the blocks. I then pieced and quilted it on my new Tula Pink Bernina with my favorite Aurifil Thread!

Home Sweet Home

On to our EPIC journey! We set a goal as a family to hit all 50 states. We were making some good progress and then the baby was born. And we decided we had to start over so she could visit all 50 as well. So here we go! 25 down, 25 more to go!

New York

We stopped at a number of places along our route. We stopped at State Lines to take some fun pics! We love New York and visit all the time!

Badlands National Park

I love National Parks! We also tried to visit as many as we could along the way. I had never been to Badlands National Park. It was amazing to see!

Badlands National Park

We couldn’t leave South Dakota without a stop at the infamous Mount Rushmore. It was HUGE! It was a surreal moment to see it. We loved every minute we were there! And took tons of pics!

We seriously couldn’t get enough of Mount Rushmore. It was such a fun place to have my Stars and Stripes Quilt.

Mount Rushmore

That wraps up the first segment of our traveling Stars and Stripes quilt. Stop by again to see where we took my quilt next! You can also follow me on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest!

Jolly Bar Row Along- Week 4

Hi! Welcome back to week 4 of the Jolly Bar Row Along with Fat Quarter Shop. If this is your first time stopping by you can see Week 3, Week 2 and Week 1 in these previous posts. You need a Jolly Bar Book Volume 2 and the fabric requirements for the Row Along quilt which includes background yardage and your favorite Jolly Bar!

Jolly Bar Row Along

I am using Bonnie and Camille’s Early Bird fabric for my Jolly Bar. If you haven’t noticed yet, I’m a BIG Bonnie and Camille fan! So this fabric line fits right in! Grab your favorite Jolly Bar and you can sew along too!

Buy the Jolly Bar Volume 2 Book

This week’s block is called Crushing on You. It is sew cute! I always love a heart block and this one is no exception!

Pressing hearts with my Oliso Mini

There are a few steps in creating this block, including trimming and pressing. I couldn’t do this pressing without my Oliso mini iron. It gets super hot which makes my blocks so flat. And it’s pink! To match my cute hearts!

Fork Pins

I haven’t shared on here for a bit my little secret to getting my points to match up, FORK PINS! These are a lifesaver. I have to use my seam ripper much less, which makes me a happier quilter! The pin holds the fabric on either side so it doesn’t shift while stitching. Fork Pins are amazing and I get perfect points every time. (even on my heart blocks!) You should try them!

Favorite tools

I have two more tools that I use all the time! I love Aurifil thread! This thread is my favorite. It glides through the fabric and creates no bulk. I am also an Aurifil Artisan so I will be sharing a more about this thread this year! I love my aqua rotary cutter by Olfa and use it everyday I’m quilting. I mean, anything aqua is my favorite!

Crushing on You

And my hearts are done! I love that they are going in the center of the quilt. And I love that this block is called Crushing on You. Isn’t that sew cute?

Are you quilting along? I hope so! This is such a fun and fast quilt!

Thanks for stopping by! If you want to see more of what I’m up to, you can follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Jolly Bar Row Along

I am a big fan of Bonnie and Camille fabric! (You probably noticed if you have stopped here before!) So it is no surprise that I used their Early Bird fabric line for this quilt along.

My favorite flying geese

Jolly Bar Row Along- Week 2

It’s week two of the Jolly Bar Row Along! I am sewing along with the Fat Quarter Shop. You can check out the Fat Quarter Shop blog and see all of my blogging buddies! Today’s quilt block is called Spinning Spools. It is one of the blocks in the Jolly Bar Book Volume 2. We are making a sampler quilt with all of the blocks in this book. And it is going to be sew cute! You can see the schedule and fabric requirements here.

Jolly Bar Row Along

I am using the jolly bar, Early Bird by Bonnie and Camille. I love Bonnie and Camille fabric! And this line is super cute! My other favorite supplies I’m using are Aurifil thread, my aqua rotary cutter and the cutest pink iron ever!

Spinning Spools

Spinning Spools is one of the fastest blocks ever! You only need two Jolly Bar rectangles and some background. I want to make this entire quilt! And that navy floral is my new favorite print.

Buy the Jolly Bar Volume 2 Book

These blocks are so fun! I had two of the aqua stripe prints in my jolly bar. Now my spools can match. I’m excited to see this all put together in my sampler quilt. Are you quilting along?
