Welcome to Release 3 for the Serendipity QAL with Fat Quarter Shop! I am excited to share my blocks today. These Windfall blocks are some of my favorites!
I am using Bonnie and Camille’s fabric line Shine On. If you have stopped here before, you know I am a big fan of Bonnie and Camille! Shine On is a great fabric line with those cute rainbows! I am using the navy rainbows as the accent fabric.
The center of these star blocks are a traditional courthouse steps block. I pieced them the traditional way. But you can use Courthouse steps foundation paper by Fat Quarter Shop if you would like.
With so many little pieces, the only way to get these flat are with what I call the pressing dream team! I use my Oliso mini pink iron to press my blocks. After each seam is pressed, I place my Riley Blake Designs clapper on top of my block. After a minute or two, my blocks are so flat!
The star portion of the block is created by flying geese. I love making flying geese. They are one of my favorite blocks! I am also using my favorite Aurifil thread to piece my blocks. I use 2021 white because it matches with everything. I use 50 wt. for piecing and quilting.
These star blocks are some of my favorites in this quilt. So I picked my favorite fabric print, mums! I even used it in two different blocks- the aqua mums and the orange mums. I seriously love this print so much! I should have bought a bolt of each!
I love making these blocks so much! The Windfall block is a great mash-up of the traditional courthouse steps and a star block. They are fun to make and are going to look great in my quilt!
