Hi! I’m back with block 3 for the Jolly Bar 3 QAL with Fat Quarter Shop. This week’s blocks are super fast and easy! You can find the individual cutting instructions here. You will need the Jolly Bar Book Volume 3 for the QAL as it contains the assembly instructions. There are also a number of fun quilts in this book. It is a great book to add to my quilt book library!
I am using the fabric line Cider by Basic Grey for Moda Fabrics for this QAL. I cut into a layer cake instead of a Jolly Bar so I will have extras of this amazing Fall line! I am also using Vanilla grunge as the background.
This block was super quick to cut out! Jolly Bars (or Layer Cakes) make cutting this out super fast! I used the blues for the previous blocks, so it was time for the corals. Coral has to be one of my favorite colors. I love this Fall-ish coral. I can’t wait to see it in this quilt!
Per the pattern instructions, draw a line on the fabric. I love this Sewline air erase pen. It leaves a purple line that disappears after about 20 minutes!
Fabric saving tip: draw a second line 1/2″ away from the initial line. Sew on both lines and then trim 1/4″ away from the seam. You will have a half square triangle (HST) when you are finished. On a block like this large flying geese, you will actually end up with two HST! Now I can use these HST on a different project or include them on the back of my quilt.
If you have stopped here before, you will recognize what I call the pressing dream team! I am obsessed with this new combo! I use my pink mini Oliso iron to press my blocks. Then I place my Riley Blake Designs clapper on the block. My blocks are so flat! I seriously can’t believe the difference. I am hooked!
Now you may be thinking that I didn’t finish my blocks. And you are right! I didn’t sew the flying geese together because I am doing a different layout. I wanted to do a table topper/wall hanging instead of a table runner. And the blocks fit better not sewn together. I can’t wait to share my layout with you!
