I am excited to show you my Mini Charm Chocolates Quilt today! I mean what goes better with fabric, than chocolate?!? Yes, please!
I started with Bonnie and Camille’s newest line with Moda, The Good Life. It’s so pretty and is quickly becoming my favorite line! (Shhhhh….don’t tell the others!)
I decided to make the baby quilt since my baby is turning 1 at the end of this month! You will need 3 mini charm packs and one yard of background fabric to make this quilt. I used the coral hearts as the background. I am a bit crazy and wanted all the hearts to face the right direction. So I used 1 1/2 yards of the background fabric to keep the hearts directional.
Since my baby is not such a little baby anymore, I decided to add two additional borders to the original crib size pattern. I cut 2 1/2″ strips of the coral floral for the first border. I used 4 WOF (width of fabric) strips.
I then cut additional background fabric for the outer border. The outer border is 4 1/2″. It is hard to say how much fabric I used since I cut some of the borders WOF and some on the selvedge. I had some fabric left over from the 1 1/2 yards of background fabric. Anything to keep the hearts directional, right?
And wow! What a difference quilting makes! Doesn’t this quilt look so cuddly? I took these pics in the same location at the same time of day. I wanted to see the difference quilting makes. And its huge! I did straight line quilting. But that stripe binding is my favorite!
I also tried spray basting for the first time. And I loved it! I may be converted. I used 505 basting spray that I picked up from Joanns and it worked great. It didn’t gum up my needle which seems to be a common complaint. I had no issues. So if you are on the fence about spray basting, give it a try!
I chose a coral minky for the back. We are headed into a cold New England winter, so I thought the birthday girl could use a warm, cuddly blanket. And now I want to put minky on the back of everything! It is so soft! And there is the stripe binding again. Love!
And here is the soon to be birthday girl trying out her new quilt! I think its safe to say she loves it! (and yes, she is wearing Christmas pajamas. Christmas starts early around here!)

Chirp Out!
